Triple M changes – what do you think?

As our exclusive interview with him reveals, Triple M’s Group PD Grant Tothill is uber-passionate about radio. (Read the Tothill article – its FREE even to non-subscribers.)

He’s no bean counter. No stickler for formula. Tothill readily embraces change and believes that radio is still, above all, a creative endeavour. The wholesale changes made this week to the breakfast and drive shifts in Sydney and Melbourne are testament to that.

But creativity and change always carry risk. There’s a favourite saying among comedians, “If they laugh, it’s comedy. If they don’t it’s art.” And Austereo have never been much for art.

Have you heard any of it yet? What do you think? Will it work? Is the music, the talent, the format strong enough to win back the audience Triple M has lost?

Or, perhaps more importantly, is it strong enough to overcome the traditional parochialism that has buried many Sydney – Melbourne networking experiments before it?
