Because of the decision to reappoint Nielsen, 2SM has informed Commercial Radio Australia that it will no longer participate in the Sydney Audience Research Survey (see this week’s news item). The station will instead conduct its own “independent audience research.”
Conventional wisdom has it that if you’re near the top you tend to believe in surveys but if you’re near the bottom you don’t. Just ask John Singleton who hasn’t had a complaint since the day Alan Jones joined 2GB.
Can stations do without ratings? Should it be ‘one in all in’ ? Is it likely to impact more widely the radio industry?
Put your management hat on and tell us what you’d do if you were in charge.
