Let’s face it, Radio has never been mistaken for a bastion of job security. But with what is euphemistically called an “economic downturn” well and truly upon us, some have confided to us at info that they are somewhat more concerned about their jobs than usual. Are they justified in their concerns or worrying needlessly?
Of course, if you’re Alan Jones who has just pocketed a $4.5 million bonus for extending his contract with 2GB, you’d certainly have no need to worry. But if you’re one of the working stiffs at the Macquarie Radio Network you may have some cause for concern as CEO Angela Clark did not rule out job cuts to counter a sharp drop in advertising when speaking to The SMH’s Business Day last week.
What precautions can those of us who rely on a steady job take to keep working in Radio? Or should we be out looking for a job in another industry?
As usual, you are under no obligation to stick to this topic. You may use this forum to express any view you like, provided it has something to do with radio and provides no grounds for litigation.
