How High Should The Aussie Music Quota Go??

Since the days of Johhny O’Keefe the record companies have complained to stations about lack of air-play for Australian artists. And radio has bemoaned the lack of quality – especially for non-CHR formats.

Now Austereo has upped the ante with a bold new initiative to play more of the domestic product (see this week’s news item). Is this a show of faith? Altruism? Or a wise move that will pay dividends for them, the record companies and fresh Aussie talent.

Put your PD hat on (whether you are one or not) and tell us how you’d treat Australian music – the same or different to the foreign product?
