RTHK kicks off ‘Operation Santa Claus’

One of Hong Kong’s biggest annual fundraising campaigns – Operation Santa Claus (OSC), jointly organised by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and South China Morning Post (SCMP), was launched last week.

Established in 1988 with the aim of connecting the local community to charities with the help of the city’s most respected media organisations, OSC is one of Hong Kong’s most beloved charity efforts.

It has raised over HK$230 million and benefited more than 210 different charities so far.

This year, the theme for OSC is “Small Change, Big Change” and 22 charities in five distinct areas have been identified to receive donations.

They serve the causes of Children & Youth, Elderly, Mental & Physical Disabilities, Community and Medical services.

The launch ceremony marks the beginning of a series of fundraising events to be held throughout November and December.

It also featured several musical performances by a 12-piece Motown band, The Martini Nation, as well as two of the RTHK Young Music Makers, Melody CHAN and KWAN Lok-tin.

The ceremony was hosted by Karen Koh, and was broadcast live on RTHK Radio 3 (AM 567, FM97.9 Happy Valley, Jardine’s Lookout, Parkview Corner, AM1584/FM106.8 HK South, FM107.8 Tseung Kwan O & Tin Shui Wai. DAB channel 33).

It is also available on RTHK website archive.
