Phuket Island Radio to be back on air soon

91.5 FM Phuket Island Radio – the island’s oldest English language station – is planning to return to air as its license, which was approved in September, has been issued.

The station was taken off-air during the military coup in Thailand last year, but managed to maintain its presence online on .

It is an entertainment channel targeted at local expats, Thais learning English and tourists in Phuket.

91.5FM is also an official BBC re-broadcaster and promotes Phuket as a destination resort while supporting many local charities and CSR projects.

Kanyarat Jones, Managing Director at 91.5FM said: “We always knew we would come back to Phuket airwaves. We just had to be patient while the licensing authority processed a huge amount of new applications. We have been online continuously to our local and global audience and have experienced a welcome growth in our online listeners, in February listeners have tuned in from over 100 countries, this growth and the recent time off air has enabled my team to develop a number of additional improvements to our services, all of which will be announced over the coming weeks.”
