Veteran Hong Kong broadcaster Robert Chua has called on the Hong Kong government to approve the funding for public broadcaster RTHK’s studio move.

The cost of the new headquarters in the New Territories has shot up from HK$1.6 billion to HK$6.1 billion since it was first proposed.

But RTHK has defended the cost saying the original estimate was made in 2000 and based on much smaller facilities.

It will now operate additional channels from the new studios, the organisation says.
