World Radio Day

Radio finally has a ‘day.’  Women have one, so do children. There’s a world no tobacco day, an international day of peace and of course world environment day. So what will World Radio Day mean to this industry? What is it worth it to be recognised by the UN in its calendar of special world days?

Are you proud that your industry has been recognised for its contribution to world heritage, or is that going a bit too far?

When we wrote about the upcoming event people started popping out of the woodwork. Readers wanted to donate things, the Film and Sound Archive advised us of their plans (more on that soon) and we were contacted by several international organisations telling us about their events. So there must be a wave of support out there.

One idea that came in to the radioinfo inbox was a donate or swap opportunity for more well endowed stations to help out others by sending them cast off equipment or offering no-cost swaps, such as voiceovers. If you would like to offer something to another station feel free to write about it in this blog and we will try and connect you to a station that needs what you can offer.

For instance, radioinfo knows of one small station in Kabul that needs a compressor or automatic gain control for example. Anyone out there have one that they would like to donate?
